World Series Sprintcars Adjustment
World Series Sprintcars Speedweek is just days away, and preparations are well in advance for the nice spectacular nights of racing between Boxing Day (Adelaide) and the Australian Open in Brisbane on January 7.
During the short interlude between Round 4 on December 3 and Round 5 on December 26, Speedway Australia has taken the opportunity the review the first four rounds of the expanded series. We’ve consulted with contracted driver and teams and liaised with the SCCA, and the most common request is that the series should be conducted consistently from round to round.
While reviewing the points allocation for the curtailed Toowoomba round, an alleged anomaly was highlighted to us regarding the points awarded for Round 1 at Murray Bridge, which was also curtailed.
There was a slight difference in what portion of the respective meetings had been completed when the cancellation occurred as Round 1 was rained out after the heats, but before the Shootouts and B-Main. There was no definite A-Main grid order ascertained and points were awarded for the time trials and two heats only.
At Round 4 the cancellation occurred during the B-Main (which was declared), and after the Shootouts had occurred. The A-Main grid had been finalised and therefore full feature points were paid out, in A-Main grid order.
The difference was put to the SCCA, and in the interests of consistency it was agreed to award feature points for Round 1, in qualifying order. This has led to a revision of the Round 1 and overall series points.
Moving forward, it is clearly desirable to avoid changes to points or results long after the meeting has finished. To provide clarity at future rounds the SCCA Steward in attendance will sign off all points allocations on the night. Any changes subsequent to that will be in accordance with SCCA rules and policies.
